Gary Lisle

Compiled by Cathy Charles with special thanks to Gary for always sharing his knowledge.

Gary is an artist whose passion for glass transcends the boundaries of current lampworking confines. Gary loves abstract work and his pieces illustrate the truly unique perspective that glass, as a medium can achieve.

Gary has been beading for two and half years. The first five months were on a Hot Head, the next two years were on a Nortel Minor. Just recently Gary has upgraded to the Lynx Bobcat. "The hotter the better" says Gary.

Interestingly, Gary follows a similar path into lampworking as a number of men. His wife booked into a course to make beads and then couldn't make it, so Gary stepped in.

"There are no rules" Gary Lisle August 04

He is well known by local beaders for heating thick glass rods in the flame without warming them up first. Ed Note: I suspect Gary takes great delight watching his audience cringe as he places 8-10mm rods straight into the flame. " I know where it will go" he says with a cheeky smile! His workroom floor is covered in Moretti chips.

Gary is in the middle of building his own home. The splash backs in his new kitchen will be slumped glass designed by Gary and his wife (Ed Note: Very Jealous). In his spare time, which he has precious little of, Gary likes to work with wood, collect glass blown items from other talented glass blowers and build kilns. If you would like more information about Gary's Annealing Kilns (the toasters) contact him on via email.
